How Can the DALI Data Be Received and Set Up?

Casambi offers multiple ways to access and extract DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) data from compatible devices within a Casambi network. DALI data can be used in  monitoring, diagnostics, and integration with third-party systems.

1. Receiving DALI Data via the Casambi App

The most accessible method for viewing DALI data is through the Casambi app. This requires no external tools or advanced configuration.

Setup Steps:

  • Install and Open the Casambi App on a supported iOS or Android device.
  • Connect to the Casambi Network that includes DALI-enabled devices (via a Casambi-compatible DALI gateway/module).
  • Tap on the Relevant Luminaire to open its properties.
  • Wiew DALI Details  : Depending on the device type, the app will display:
    • Device identification (e.g. short address, type)
    • Real-time dimming level
    • Energy consumption (if supported by the driver)
    • Emergency status (for DT1 devices) – emergence mode, status data, failures

Note: Not all DALI data points are exposed for all devices. Data visibility depends on device capability and firmware support.

2. Receiving DALI Data via the Casambi API (Beta)

For developers and system integrators, Casambi offers a REST-based API (currently in beta), which allows external systems to retrieve DALI data programmatically.

Setup Requirements:

  • A Casambi API key (beta) requested from Casambi support
  • Network sharing enabled for the target network (and administrator credentials of the network)
  • Gateway device for the Casambi network with the “Usage of devices” option activated.
  • Casambi DALI fixture devices in the network as source of the DALI data.
  • Authorization token via the developer portal after creating a Network/User Session.

Example Use Cases:

  • Centralized dashboards
  • BMS integration
  • Long-term data logging
  • Custom energy or diagnostics reports

The API allows access to device-level information, including DALI data such as power consumption, light level, and status flags (based on device support).
