Overview

Casambi Pro supports controlling DALI luminaires via the Casambi DALI Controller products (the Casambi Salvador product family). Wired DALI luminaires will later appear in the Casambi Pro in the same way as standard Casambi Ready luminaires.

Using a DALI Controller is done in two phases:

  1. Pairing: Casambi DALI controller is paired into the network.

  2. Discovery of DALI drivers: The paired DALI controller searches the luminaire drivers in the DALI network. The discovered drivers (luminaires) are then added to the Casambi network via the DALI controller.

The discovery phase is explained in detail later in this document.

More information about the Casambi DALI Controller can be found in www.casambi.com.

Creating a DALI controller placeholder

There can be several Casambi DALI controllers in each network. Like the standard controllers, a DALI controller can be created in advance as a placeholder which is later replaced by the real Casambi DALI controller (Salvador) unit.

To create a placeholder, right-click on top of the network name in the Networks pane and click New Device.

In the New Device dialog, make sure that the “Type” is Casambi DALI Controller, and then

  • Enter name for the placeholder
  • Select controller’s DALI luminaire capacity (16, 32 or 64)
  • Select location (layout where the placeholder should reside)

After clicking the Create button in the dialog, the DALI controller placeholder element is displayed in the top left corner of the selected layout.

The placeholder can be freely moved into correct location in the layout. It can also be moved to another layout by selecting new location in the gateway properties.

DALI controller’s properties are in the Network’s property pane.

DALI controller properties

  1. Name of the Casambi DALI Controller device

  2. Controller’s DALI luminaire capacity. One Salvador can connect either 16, 32 or 64 DALI luminaires

  3. Number of actual DALI luminaires in the network. Initially the number is 0 until the discovery phase is done.

  4. DALI controller’s location in Casambi Pro project’s layouts. If the DALI controller object is moved from a layout to another, it will be shown in a default top left location in the target layout where it is moved to.

When the actual cloud gateway device is available, it can be connected (paired) to the network with Casambi Pro for iOS. For detailed pairing and connecting instructions, see next chapter in this document.

Notes about Casambi DALI Controller

  • One network can have one or more DALI controllers. Maximum capacity of the Casambi mesh networks is 250 devices, so it is good to keep in mind that
    • Each DALI controller (a Salvador unit) is counted as one node in the network.
    • Each DALI luminaire added via the DALI controller is counted as one node in the network.
  • Discovery of the luminaires in the DALI network can be done only after the real DALI controller unit has been paired to the network.
  • Only DALI luminaires can be controlled via the DALI controller. DALI sensors or switches are not supported.
